Management Team & Heads of Year

Headmaster
Mr Will Williams

[email protected]

Over the course of my career, I have held teaching, coaching, and managerial roles at Marlborough College, Wellington College, and St Paul's School, where I joined the Senior Management Team as Director of Learning. My most recent post was Senior Deputy Head of Pangbourne College, Reading, where I was also Acting Headmaster during the Summer Term 2019.

Through my time at these schools, I have honed my view that the USP of good schools is the true rounding of the individual, measurable not just by academic success, but by responses to small failures and creative flourishes. It is the role of the school to support, praise, and nudge young people so that they learn to deal with the slings and arrows of life ahead.

I am also an ISI inspector, a published author, and ed-Tech advisor, and am committed to challenging, inspiring, and supporting young learners in preparing them for their future society and work.

As a geographer, I enjoy travelling – recent trips have included hiking in Nepal and Patagonia. Although I love the big outdoors, I also enjoy city living and, before training as a teacher, I spent three years working for an international law firm in Hong Kong. I try to use my own experiences of visits to other parts of the world to bring geography alive in the classroom.

Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead

Assistant Head (Key Stage 4 (Years 9, 10 & 11))
Mrs Jillian Mannion

[email protected]

I joined Kew House in 2015, having previously taught at Old Palace of John Whitgift School for seven years, initially teaching English and then becoming Head of Drama as the subject grew in popularity. Before coming to London, I studied Drama and English, receiving my BA and PGCE from Queen’s University, Belfast. I completed my MA at Goldsmiths, University of London. I gained a diploma in Dramatherapy at Roehampton University, to enhance my pastoral work with Years 9 to 11, when appointed Head of Key Stage 4. Pupils in these years can come to me for support and I will monitor their progress both academically and emotionally. I also organise the public examinations, ensuring the process runs smoothly and that all pupils have the best possible environment in which to sit their important qualifications.

Developing the Drama department at Kew House has been very rewarding; seeing the department go from strength to strength as an academic subject and through extra-curricular festivals and competitions, large-scale productions and many theatre trips. We have a wealth of talented performers here, many of whom have gone on to study at prestigious drama schools in London and further afield. I have directed a wide range of productions over the years and will continue to showcase the students' skills in our annual musical theatre productions, house drama competitions, sixth form plays, and summer festivals.

I love going to the theatre, but I also enjoy watching contemporary dance and music events, as well as discovering the fantastic museums and galleries which London has to offer.

I have over 20 years of experience up to Head of Department level and have experience as an Edexcel examiner. I have been a teacher trainer and a coordinator for gifted and talented students. This last area is one that I have a particular passion for; I believe that every student has individual educational needs and that an excellent school should offer extended support for its most able, as well as provide help for students who find aspects of the curriculum especially challenging.

I joined the Maths department at KHS in 2018 and I am very much looking forward to contributing to the future success of students, particularly at GCSE and Advanced level; I bring enthusiasm, and a passion for my subject and for supporting students as they grow, develop and become the global citizens of tomorrow.

Teacher of Latin
Dr Stuart Curtis

I studied in Scotland for 9 years, receiving my MA & PhD in Latin from the University of Glasgow, and my PGCE from Strathclyde University. I then taught Latin (& some Mathematics) at an IB & Round Square school in Bermuda for 18 years, while also acting as Examinations Officer.

I believe that the inherent variety in Latin education means that every student should find aspects that interest them, whether it is in the language itself, mythology, literature, or the history of Ancient Rome. I hope that my enthusiasm for the subject, sense of humour, and ability to connect students' learning to aspects of modern languages, society and culture will inspire a new generation of classicists.

In my spare time, I enjoy reading, particularly comics and graphic novels, and I regularly attend conventions devoted to them. I am also a frequent quiz attendee and occasional quizmaster.

My ethos in running music departments is based on expanding the experiences and musical horizons of all the pupils; encouraging diversity, enjoyment and the constant striving for professional standards in my students.

When not engaged in musical activities, I can usually be found in, on, or under a motor vehicle.  I spend most of my resources renovating classic cars, currently a Triumph GT6 and a BMW 2002.

I hugely enjoy the wide range of music I can explore with students within a day at Kew House, from reggae with year 7, to minimalism with year 8, to jazz and musical theatre with GCSE students, to symphonic analysis with A-level students. Before coming to London, I studied Drama and English, receiving my BA and PGCE from Queen’s University, Belfast. I recently completed my MA at Goldsmiths, University of London.

Developing the Drama department at KHS, both as an academic subject and through extra-curricular festivals and competitions, large-scale productions and many theatre trips is very rewarding. We have wealth of talented actors and musicians I am hoping to showcase as the drama facilities evolve. I have directed a wide range of productions over the years, everything from Aristophanes’ The Frogs to The Sound of Music, and I have lots of exciting ideas for shows at Kew House.

I am currently studying for a diploma in Dramatherapy at Roehampton University as part of my pastoral work with Years 9-11. Students in these years can come to me for support and I will monitor their progress both academically and emotionally. I have an overview of the public examinations, ensuring the process runs smoothly and that all students have the best possible environment in which to sit their important qualifications.
