Admission Criteria

We seek inquisitive, intelligent students displaying a confident sense of identity and an original approach to learning, problem solving and creativity. Although we do use entrance testing, greater emphasis is placed on interview, samples of work and feeder school reports. In some cases, we may ask to visit a student at their current school. Each year group is selected as a balanced cohort of students with different aptitudes and personal attributes who will motivate and inspire each other.

We welcome children from all educational backgrounds. Limited places are available in Years 9, for suitable applicants in year 10 and 6th form, subject to admissions criteria, for September 2017.

The school will give sympathetic consideration to siblings in terms of admissions but we do not operate a sibling priority policy.

Admissions Process

Entry at Year 7 September 2018 - Procedure

  1. Come to visit the school. We will continue to hold Open Events throughout the 2017-2018 academic year. Please see the website for details.
  2. Complete a Registration Form. This is available for completion on the school website or can be sent to us by post. To register for entry into the school the fee is £120. Parents may register at any time prior to entry.  The closing date for registration is the 5th January 2018.  Applications received without a registration fee will not be processed.
  3. Prior to entry, the school will contact parents to provide them with a date for the 11+ examination. We will also ask for a confidential reference from the student’s current school, together with internal assessment results.
  4. Students will then take the school’s entrance examination. The dates scheduled are Thursday 11th January 2018 and Saturday 13th January 2018. The 11+ examination consists of an English comprehension paper, a creative writing paper and a mathematics paper. We do not use verbal or non-verbal reasoning testing.
  5. We will also ask all parents to bring all applicants for an interview. We will ask students to prepare a brief presentation which may be on any area of achievement or any topic. We will commence our interview process as early as September and conclude this process by the 15th January 2018. Groups of three or four students may be interviewed at the same time.
  6. In some cases, we may also ask to visit the student's current school to observe them in an environment where they are comfortable.
  7. After the admissions process is completed we will make offers for places at Kew House School. These will be sent out on or before the 8th February 2018. The deadline date for acceptance of offers is the 5th March 2018 at 12 noonWe will hold your offer open until this date, after which we will offer places to those on our reserve list.
  8. Once an offer is accepted we will ask parents to complete an Acceptance Form and pay a deposit of £3000. This deposit payment is retained whilst the student is in attendance at the school. The deposit is thereafter returnable provided we are given a term’s notice that the child is leaving the school. The full deposit of £3000 is also required from successful applicants currently attending KGPS or RPPS.  The Deposit payment can be paid via a bank transfer.  Cheques will only be accepted up to 26th February 2018 at 12.00 noon to permit clearing to take place.

Entry at Year 8 and Year 9

  1. Come to visit the school. We will continue to hold Open Events throughout the 2017-2018 academic year. You can also arrange to visit the school on an alternative date through the Admissions Officer. A senior member of staff or the Headmaster will conduct your tour.

    1. In the Spring or Summer Term prior to entry, the school will contact parents to inform them of the date and time for interview. This enables us to set a date for the student to take the entrance exam and also gives us permission to ask for a confidential reference from the student’s current school together with internal assessment results.
    2. We will ask all applicants to come for an interview and all students will be asked to prepare a brief presentation which may be on any area of achievement or any topic. Overseas applicants may have their interview conducted via Skype.
    3. In some cases, we may also ask to visit the applicant’s current school to observe them in an environment where they are comfortable.
    4. Within a week of the admissions process we will make an offer of a place or decline to offer a place at Kew House School. There will be a deadline date for acceptance of offers.
    5. We will deal with each application on an individual basis and offers made will be dependent on availability.
    6. Once an offer is accepted we will ask parents to complete an Acceptance Form and pay a deposit of £3000.  This deposit payment is retained whilst the student is in attendance at the school. The deposit is thereafter returnable provided we are given a term’s notice that the child is leaving the school. The Deposit payment can be paid via a bank transfer.
